    Ichimadin with Goshu Kariyushi Society presents a charity concert featuring a singer/Sanshin player “Mion” from Okinawa. The concert will be filled with Okinawa music and singing. All profits will go to JCS Rainbow Project and Nichigo Junior Project supporting the younger generation from the effected areas of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake.

    In this workshop you’ll learn a variety of Japanese binding stitch techniques and patterns and create your very own books to take home.

    The techniques covered include simple Japanese stitch, Japanese stab binding, Hemp stitch and tortoise shell binding. Each technique builds on the last and all notes and materials will be supplied so you can create your own set of soft cover books to take home.

    Matcha, the powdered green tea used in Chanoyu, the Japanese Tea Ceremony is currently booming in popularity throughout Japan and the rest of the world. This workshop will introduce you to the spiritual heart behind the fad and give you the essence of knowledge to begin integrate it into your life.

    Chanoyu has been ever so slowly evolving for 800 years and a proper chaji (Tea Ceremony) takes about 3 years to learn and once you’ve learnt it, 5 hours to perform. That level of dedication is a serious undertaking. This 3 hour workshop will give you the very first, fundamental skills to make and drink a bowl of matcha.

    The workshop will cover:

    The history and production of matcha.

    The fundamentals of making and serving a bowl of tea.

    How to handle and care for your equipment.

    How to select and store matcha.
