The Japanese word "shaberoo" means "let’s talk", and Shaberoo-kai is a conversation group offering an opportunity to take part in Japanese-English language exchange - while having fun! Attendees include both Australians and Japanese of all ages. The group often enjoys a meal together or other regular outings. Shaberoo-kai aims to foster friendships between people in a relaxed, informal environment, and to facilitate cultural exchange.
Shaberoo-kai nights are held twice a month, on the first and third Thursdays. The venue is the Ross House Association at 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Attendance is free for Society members. Non-members are requested to pay a nominal donation of $3.00 to cover drinks and food.
Conversation Nights cater to speakers of both English and/or Japanese of all levels from beginners to advanced. These and other monthly events offer the opportunity to socialise informally in a mixed language environment, while expanding Japanese/English skills.
